The Lord Our Husband – Part 6

For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.
Isaiah 54:5 (NKJV)

Names of the Lord Our Husband

Isaiah 54:5 shows us several names that are specific to the Lord as our Husband.

  • Our Maker is our Husband.
  • Our Husband’s name is the Lord of Hosts.
  • Our Redeemer is our Husband.
  • Our Husband is the Holy One of Israel.
  • Our Husband is called the God of the whole earth.

The Lord Our Husband, the Holy One of Israel

Scripture conveys to us how we are to interact with the Lord our Husband, the Holy One of Israel. It shows us what breaks down and what strengthens our relationship with Him.

As I look through these passages, I find myself sorrowful and repentant of how I have treated the Lord my Husband, the Holy One of Israel. I know it is not right to treat the Lord in these ways, but to think of them in the aspect of treating the Lord my Husband in these ways sheds a new light on how I treat Him. I would never think of saying anything negative or devaluing of pure gold, or a perfect diamond. Yet, the Lord my Husband, the Holy One of Israel, is far more precious and perfect than anything I know of on earth. How much more respectful and honoring am I to be to the Lord my Husband, the Holy One of Israel, than I am to things that are temporal and created by the Maker of everything?

I invite you to join me in repenting of the negative relational aspects of how we and/or our generations have treated the Lord our Husband, the Holy One of Israel. After repenting, please replace by using the following Scriptures related to the Lord our Husband, the Holy One of Israel.

Repent & Replace

As part of the bride of Christ, I repent and ask for forgiveness on behalf of myself and my generations for how we have (repent of items listed below)…

  • Raised our voice in exaltation against our Husband, the Holy One of Israel (2 King 19:22; Is 37:23)
  • Lifted up our eyes and exalted ourselves against our Husband, the Holy One of Israel (2 King 19:22; Is 37:23)

I choose to replace these with (replace with the items below)…

  • Praising and singing to our Husband, the Holy One of Israel (Ps 71:22)
  • Rejoicing with lips and soul in song to the One who redeemed us, our Husband, our Redeemer (Ps 71:23)

  • Looking our Maker and having eyes that respect the Holy One of Israel (Is 17:7)
  • Glorying in the Holy One of Israel (Is 41:16)

Implementation & Reflection

I invite you to ask the Lord your Husband, the Holy One of Israel, these following questions as you grow in your relationship with Him.

  • Are there ways that I knowingly, or unknowingly reproach You?
    • If so, why do I do that?
    • Is there a wound or pain that I have that is the source of me reproaching You?
    • How would You like to heal this area of my life?
    • If this began in my generations, please show me where it began so I can take responsibility for it and get to the root issue in my life?
  • Are there ways that I jeopardize my relationship with You by reproaching You?
    • If so, why do I do that?
    • Is there a wound or pain that I have that is the source of me reproaching You?
    • How would You like to heal this area of my life?
    • If this began in my generations, please show me where it began so I can take responsibility for it and get to the root issue in my life?
  • How do I make changes to remove these negative aspects from negatively impacting my relationship with You?
  • Please teach me in ways I have not known before as how to praise and sing to You as my Husband, the Holy One of Israel.
  • What practical steps do I need to apply to my life to actively participate in the replacement items listed above?
  • Is there anything else You would like to show me?
