The Lord Our Husband – Part 3

For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.
Isaiah 54:5 (NKJV)

As we continue with our series on “The Lord Our Husband,” maintaining the focus that the Lord is our Husband, rather than our Husband who is the Lord, keeps us from making an idol of husband. We do not want to make God in the image as our Husband based on earthly relationships. For women, it is important not to go into a fantasy world of God as our Husband. It would be easy to do so for women who are unmarried. It could be an escape for women who are in less than ideal marriages. For men, the aspect of the Lord being their Husband needs to be based on Scripture on who God says He is to them. The model of male-female relationship in natural marriage does not work for men to apply to their relationship with the Lord as their Husband. There are aspects of the male-female relationship in natural marriage that for women should not be applied to how they view the Lord as their Husband either. Instead of looking at natural relationships of how husbands and wives interact to see how we are to interact with the Lord our Husband, we look to the Scripture to see what it says about the Lord our God in His role to us as Husband. We need to see what He says about being our Husband, not what we think He should be like based on earthly marriages.

Names of the Lord Our Husband

Isaiah 54:5 shows us several names that are specific to the Lord as our Husband.

  • Our Maker is our Husband.
  • Our Husband’s name is the Lord of Hosts.
  • Our Redeemer is our Husband.
  • Our Husband is the Holy One of Israel.
  • Our Husband is called the God of the whole earth.

The Lord Our Maker is Our Husband

“Woe to him who strives with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands?’”
Isaiah 45:9

We understand this Scripture mostly from the perspective of the Lord our Maker as our Father. Whereas that is a correct interpretation and application of this passage, this blessing is based on the Lord our Maker in its application to Him being our Husband.

Blessing you with the Lord your Maker as your Husband

Beloved, the Lord your Maker is your Husband. His intricate fashioning and designing of you fits you perfectly as His bride. He created you, chose you and loves you. It is one thing to know your Heavenly Father as the Lord your Maker. For indeed, your Heavenly Father is your Maker. However, the Lord your Maker is also your Husband. This role differs from that of your Heavenly Father as your Maker. Knowing your Maker as your Husband brings love and assurance that fills a place in your heart that can only be filled by Him as your Husband.

Beloved, hear the Word of the Lord for you.

For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.
Isaiah 54:5 (NKJV)

“Woe to him who strives with his Maker!
Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’
Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands?’”
Isaiah 45:9 (NKJV)

Beloved, it is one thing to not strive or contend against the Lord your Maker as Father who made you. It is completely another thing to not strive or contend against the Lord your Maker who is your Husband. The deepest longing in your heart, whether as a man or a woman, is to be loved. Perhaps you have wondered, “Will I be loved and accepted based on how I am created, including my natural strengths and weaknesses? Will this love and acceptance result in marriage or being able to sustain a happy healthy marriage? If someone really knows me, will they love me or perceive me as an imposter?” These answers come from being in a covenant relationship with someone in a marriage that cannot be met in relationship with a parent. Knowing your Maker who made you, formed you, fashioned you and chose you to be His bride answers these questions and meets these needs.

Beloved, I bless you to live from the place of confidence and reality that the Lord your Maker perfectly fashioned you. He chose you from the beginning of time to be in covenant relationship to Him as His bride. I bless you to stop striving with the Lord your Maker, who is your Husband, over how He fashioned you. Striving with Him over how He made you keeps you from being able to partner with Him in the work of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. I bless you to know that the Lord your Maker, who is your Husband, truly loves and cherishes you. He takes delight in you. You bring Him pleasure. I bless you to live in harmony with the Lord your Husband. I bless you to know the depth of the covenant of life and peace He has made with you as a member of the royal priesthood (Mal 2:4-5, 1 Pet 2:9).

Beloved, hear the Word of the Lord for you.

Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
Let them praise His name with the dance;
Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people;
He will beautify the humble with salvation.
Psalm 149:2-4 (NKJV)

Beloved, I bless you to rejoice in your Maker, the Lord your Husband. I bless you to be joyful in your King and Husband. May you sing praises to His name. I bless you to live from the reality that the Lord your Maker, who is your Husband, takes pleasure in you. As you continue to grow in your humility, may your presence reflect the beauty of the salvation of the Lord your Maker and Husband.

Beloved, please turn your face and heart to the Lord your Maker and your Husband. Please ask Him to heal your perception of how you see yourself where you strive with Him over how He made you. Please ask Him to show you how to live from being fully loved by Him as your Husband in how He made you. Please ask Him how you can partner with Him as His bride in who you are for the purpose of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. Please ask Him to show you the pleasure He takes in you, His beloved bride. As the bride of Christ, I bless you in the name of Yeshua, in the name of Jesus.
